Alexander Ashworth Heritage Consulant

The practice is led by Alex Ashworth whose background is in Art and Design, which he studied for three years at London Metropolitan University, and in English medieval history and literature, which he studied at London University, specialising in Anglo-Saxon, Old Norse and Middle English.

He worked for several leading consultancies in London before founding the design agency Manifest in 1989, and established a specialist heritage consultancy practice in 2005 following a large architectural and interior design project for a privately-owned historic house.

Alex’s rare multidisciplinary breadth enables him to form new connections, often with a consequent uplift in the understanding and value (in every sense) of an historic building or work of art. He has established a reputation for a sensitive, thoughtful and evolutionary design approach, aiming for a balance of modern needs and conserved significance to achieve living spaces with continuity rather than over designed set-pieces.

He is married with two children and currently shuttles between London and Somerset, trying hard not to snoop at every historic house along the way.
