D E S I G N
We design sensitive extensions, conversions and alterations to historic buildings using low carbon materials, like-for-like repairs, and traditional materials whenever suitable.
Where period architectural details are required or missing, we draw on our extensive knowledge and large visual reference library to design historically accurate replacements, and oversee their crafting and installation.

Extensions & Conversions
We design beautiful, well-proportioned extensions and alterations to historic houses, including those in conservation areas and national parks, using the design language and materials of the existing structure as a creative starting point.
Our aim is to help clients to make historic houses that were designed for a different age to become suitable for the way we live now. Our designs are traditional and integrate well with existing structures and the landscape, adding to the sense of place.
Well also design sensitive house conversions of historic agricultural buildings, such as barns and linhays, giving new life to redundant structures and so ensuring their survival.
Architectural Details
Where architectural detail has been lost, or correct period detail is sought in the evolution of an historic building, our period detail design service supports conservation architects and building owners. We draw on our decades of experience and a vast visual reference library to specify and create drawings for historically accurate details.
We have designed and overseen the production and installation of historically appropriate doors, gates, roof trusses, windows, leaded lights, panelling, bookcases, and mantlepieces, to mention but a few examples. Clients typically say that whatever detail we design looks like it has always been there, and we like that.
Room Rethinks
We specialise in rethinking the presentation of collections, from single rooms to entire houses, to increase the appreciation and enjoyment of them, while evolving interiors to work with comfortable modern living.
Hanging pictures is much like painting them; a balancing act of spacing, colour, light and proportion. However great or modest the collection, a good hang scheme transforms the perception and appreciation of it.
It’s all about a subtle evolution, respectfully coaxing old arrangements into stylish, habitable rooms suited to contemporary living without looking over designed.
